Quitters Always Win!
So many network marketers are confused when they spout off the old quote, “never, never, never quit.”
While it’s true that all successful people have persevered through ups and downs and never gave up, that doesn’t mean they didn’t fail and it certainly doesn’t mean they didn’t quit. The fact is, the big winners in life never quit when it comes to moving toward their goals. But every single one of them (yes, all of them) had to quit something in order to stay on that path.
For example, if your goal is to see the sunset and you’re traveling east, you’ll never reach that goal. It doesn’t matter how many water walking guru’s convince you to go faster and “never, never, never quit,” you’re headed the wrong direction! You aren’t going to get where you want to be, no matter what.
I’ve been a network marketing professional for most of my adult life. The profession has given me time freedom, allowed me to meet amazing people and enjoy a well-above-average lifestyle. Before that I was a sportswriter, and a good one. But before I could become who I was meant to be, I had to quit.
Bill Gates quit Harvard. John Elway quit baseball. Justin Timberlake quit NSYNC. But none of them quit on their goals and (umm, obviously) did pretty well.
So how do you know whether or not it’s time to quit and change direction? That’s a tough question. Network marketing relies so much on belief and blind faith. In other words, you have to have a burning belief that you’ll be able to accomplish the success you seek with the company you have chosen.
And because a good network marketing company is a 3-5 year journey to the promised land, you absolutely need some resolve and some staying power. But I guess there should come a time when you need to do a responsible check of your ROI (return on investment). While there’s always sacrifice involved in success, if you’re spending more than you’re making year after year you probably should think about reprogramming your NAV system!
To be fair, in a lot of cases it might be entirely your own fault. But then again, maybe it isn’t.
The great Zig Ziglar said, “sometimes you have to give up to move up.”
So, if you want to see that sunset, “never, never, never quit” on that goal. Maybe you need a new map. Get a better set of instructions. Find a better coach.
And remember, quitters actually win all the time!
