Create a Favicon Using PicMonkey

How to Create a Favicon

Want to make your blog look that much more badass? I want to show you how to add that little cherry on top to make your page look that much more professional and learn how to create a favicon.

What is a favicon?

It’s an icon associated with a URL that is variously displayed, as in a browser’s address bar or next to the site name in a bookmark list.. again thanks Google! There isn’t anything too crazy about favicons, other than most big websites have them.

So, here I am going to show you how to create a favicon for free, since we’re all ballers on a budget in the beginning.

With a Logo

Go to
Click Design then click the Square

Once that is open, you need to choose the background color of your favicon.  I chose transparent because I already have a logo.  The tutorial if you don’t have a logo is after this one.

Click the butterfly icon, click your own, and upload your logo.

Now, it’s time to expand the logo as big as you can to cover the square.

Perfecto!!  It’s time to resize.  Hop over to the crop button and scroll down to Resize.  Resize it to 32×32.

Viola!  Click save and upload that baby up to your Favicon Section in your Theme Options.

Choose a colored background that goes with the color scheme of your blog.

You can easily keep it transparent if you’d just like letters.  I like colors so this is what I would do.

then, add your initials or whatever you’d like.

Once you are happy, it’s time to resize.  Remember, its 32×32 so you want it to be simple.  Okay, hop on over to the crop button and click resize.  Then resize it to 32×32.

Click save and boom!  It’s done.  All you have to do is upload it onto your WordPress theme where it asks for the favicon in your Theme Options.

If you don’t have a Favicon option in your theme options, here are the manual directions:

Go to the HTML/CSS/PHP/etc. documents of your site and find your Header document.

For a self-hosted WordPress site, you’ll go to “Appearance,” then “Editor,” then “Header.php.”

Paste the code below into your blog’s code under the opening <head> tag and before the closing </head> tag.

Make sure to replace the image url ( with the URL of your own square image.

<link rel=”icon” type=”image/png” href=””/>

And there you have it.
